On the surface, there appears to be a little “whimsy” in the “Doom Loop;” but don’t let that fool you.

The “whimsy” is intended to make the concept easy to learn while fully understanding that the capability of this tool goes a lot deeper than just what appears at first glance.

The “Doom Loop” integrates a lot of information and presents it clearly in an easy-to-understand manner. It is a graphic demonstration of what is going on with you on the job – and ties in not only your job performance and feelings about what you are doing, but does so over time in such a way that you can actually “predict” what will happen.

That is the value of the “Doom Loop.”

It is not something to be feared, but merely a way for you to understand what is happening, what will happen, and how to manage your job – and ultimately your career – when it happens.

Here is something you should try:

Take a few moments to explain the “Doom Loop” to someone else. You can explain it in the same way that is shown in the animated video – or you can use the “Cocktail Napkin” approach. No matter how you do it, you will find that explaining it to someone deepens your understanding of how it works and its potential for helping someone else besides just yourself.

After you show the “Doom Loop” and what the concept is, then explain the six “career crises” that are inevitable in anyone’s career. You will be surprised at how easily people grasp the concept and immediately identify with it.

And your understanding and appreciation for the little tool will grow.
